My Little Box of Horrors

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Like everyone else, I believe that breakfast should be observed with utmost dedication. Today, I woke up as usual. Washed up, dressed up, sat down for my breakfast. I remembered that we got some curry puffs from IKEA yesterday, so I opened up the fridge to get the puffs out.

Curry puffs. Yummm...

I pick a nice looking curry puff that is screaming "Eat me!! Pick me!! EAT ME!!!". I only picked that one cause it asked so nicely (and so as to shut it up forever). So I pop it into the toaster for 5 minutes, pick the papers and scan through it.

Ding!! 5 minutes later, I settle down for some nice hot curry puff. Alright, the exterior was hot, but the interior wasn't so. Guess I should have microwaved it BEFORE I toasted it. Doh...

Once I had consumed by annoying little curry puff (He screamed "wheeee" as I chopped him into fine pieces) I was all ready to go off to uni. My mom comes back from her normal trip to the market, asks me what I had.

She pops the box of curry puffs open and gives a startled scream!! Gasp!! What could possibly be sooo horrible that it would cause my mom to scream? I went on to check out the contents of the box that I had earlier opened, and to my horror......................................................................................

(Suspense)

(Suspense)

(Suspense)

(Suspense)

Ok, enough with the suspense. To my horror, there was.............a........dead........lizard........in.....my box........of curry.....puffs........... A freaking dead lizard was in the box. I didn't see the bugger earlier, but there it was. Dead as a nail in the box. It's tiny little head gave no notion of horror (or life for that matter) when I gently poked the box to see if it would scuttle off. No...it was dead.

"Well, it's about time I was too busy helping myself to these here curry puffs!!"
This is the freaking dead lizard in my box of curry puffs.....

This is me emptying my stomach......

Now, my initial reaction was of disgust.
So natually, I proceeded to relieve myself of any component of the lizard that may have been left on my curry puff.

To think I ate a whole curry puff that was together with a dead lizard for a full 6 hours in the fridge (I later learned that the puffs were in the fridge last night). I'm speculating that the lil' lizard was holed up beneath my curry puff, hence I did not see it when I picked my puff.

So......this all has enlightened me on a few things.

One: Never leave boxes with lil' air holes on the kitchen counter.

Two: Check the food before consuming it.

Three: Always have a phone ready to call 911 whenever you prepare a meal.

Offers that I cannot Refuse

It's a Saturday afternoon, I am bored and I feel a wee bit guilty for not updating the blog as of late. Thanks to frequent failures in uploading pics on the blog (thank you Blogger!), I was rather discouraged to come online to put stuff up without any pics.

Thankfully, today the site is working fine and I can finally put up pics that I have been meaning to put up so long ago. Yay!!

Been watching Godfather the movie, you know Italian mobsters in the 1930s. The famous line "I'm making you an offer you cannot refuse" originates from this movie. Why the sudden interest in this movie? Mainly because my brother got the game a few days ago and thought of doing some research on the movie. What I can say is, the film is very well thought out. It does not require excessive amounts of violence (though there are violent moments in the movie) to get the audience hooked on. A real rare classic these days of modern day explosion and bullet driven Hollywood stories.

Oh, speaking of things Italian (aside from the mob)....went out with Kat to Pizza Uno yesterday. That's two pasta dishes in one week. Yay! Judging from both the dishes provided by 1920 Caffe and Pizza Uno (P.U.), I can safely say that P.U. tops 1920 in terms of quality. Their carbonara source is spot on!!

Without futher delay, here are the pics of the day, followed by pics from the day before.

24th March 2006:

Centrepoint's Pizza Uno

The simple Magerita is simply delicious.

Camera Test Shots:

Been trying out the w800i camera over the past few days. Playing around with settings and such. Though I am far from being an execellent photographer, I just love snapping pics!

This is shot with the white balance at normal.

The shot after changing the exposure to fluorescent
"Hello? Any fishies around?"

That's not moss!! Some underwater plants in the same tank.

23rd March 2006:

People said that dawn is one of the best times to snap photos. I took their word for it.

A beautiful formation of clouds in the sky. You really don't get to see this everyday.

Finally dawn breaks!!

Some Tambun cakes from Penang passed on to James, who then passed on to whoever was sitting in the vacinity.
Yum!!...Pandan flavoured Tambun cake.

Unfortunately, eating the cake produced some weird side effects. Jim started hallucinating tried to don a ninja mask and demanded for more Tambun.

I'm dead...

My gosh...I'm feeling soo dead now...Got a stupid flu and my nose is a bloody leaking tap. I wanna sleep soon. But before I go, I'm gonna post up some pics.

Here's an odd bottle. Peri Aid for those in need of water after a sizzling hot plate of peri-peri chicken.

A panorama taken from my room a few days ago.

Would have liked to upload more pics. But blogger is given problems when updating images. Sucks.

Pictures that I owe

I know you all are gonna hate me by the end of this post. Hate me because you'll be feeling hungry after you are done looking at the pics (At least thats what I hope you'd feel).

These are the pics I was suppose to include yesterday on the excursion to Bangsar Village. Unfortunately, Blogger was giving me some problems when it came to up loading pics.

Anyways here are the pics, enjoy the show.

Bangsar Village sits over the skeletal remains of the old Hankyujaya that used to dominate the Bangsar commercial scence. From the ashes rises, Bangsar Village.
Mwahahahaha...

Had lunch was at this place. Caffe 1920. It's got another branch in One U.

This is the Pizza Bueno. Lovely thin crust pizza with a generous helping of turkey ham, bacon and cheese.

What is an Italian restaurant if it is without a Penne Cabonara dish? Nothing. Simply nothing.

Ah, Garfield's favourite dish. Cooked in an unorthodox manner. Flat on a plate. Interesting.

The Two by Two may look like a lost Yao Char Koay in an Italian restaurant, but it is actually a pretty fine dish. Crusty on the outside with some meat fillings on the inside.

This is a very nice tiny specialty bookshop. It's got a cute lil' book at the door that says 'Open'. Indeed, the book was 'open'.

This T-Shirt stand stands as a testamony that Bangsar Village is for foreigners.
You can see the words 'Gweilo' and 'Mat Salleh' there right? I didn't get to catch the words at the bottom, 'and proud of it'. So it reads,'Gweilo and proud of it'.

Bring on the Pasta!!!!!!

It's Sunday. Lunch is a matter of fast decisions that could quickly boil down to eating 'tapau' food at home or (preferably) eating out some where. Fortunately for me, we were planning to eat out today after picking Jinn Wei up from church.

Today, we decided to try some place new. That place happened to be Bangsar Village, a new mall built over the remains of the old Hankyujaya building in the Bangsar commercial area. The place still remains in rather good condition considering that it hasn't even been open for a full year.

Had lunch at Caffe 1920. Been to its One U branch, the food was ok for an average price meal that won't kill your wallet. Anyway, I'm far too lazy to write more on stuff as it is getting late. Blogger is giving probs with picture uploading again. Sigh...have to do it another day.

Without blood there is no forgiveness

Don't mind the phrase. I am not seeking for revenge or anything. It's just a phrase from a passage I just read. It is kind of true in the sense that forgiveness cannot come if some sacrifice/compromise is reached.

To illustrate this, it's like when little Jimmy wants to forgive big Tommy who just cleaned the pavement with Jimmy's face. Jimmy (while picking up his teeth from the ground) has to hold down some of that vengeful feelings in him in order to really forgive Tommy for being a big jerk.

Today, has been a really long day for me. Been at uni from 8 in the morning to 10 at night. What have I been doing? Attended class at 10 in the morning. Listening to boring Thomas O'Daniel. Finally found out that he is American cause he quoted an example of calling up his dad back in the U.S. during lecture.

What is actually happening in class

And what I actually see......are 2 different things.

Later, sat down to brush up on my Applied Micro Macro assignment, due Monday. Still haven't fixed the bugs just yet. Gotta finish it soon.

Monash University, Sunway

Stayed in uni with Kat until we had to go up to room 3.13 to attend the MBC Networking Party. This time they opened both sides of the hall to combine it into one big hall.

Room 3.13. It's real big place in there.
(Side note: If you see that lone guy in white, he is an engineering student who didn't complete his work in time. He didn't join us after he finished drawing his graph)

Of course, no party wouldn't be complete without great food. We were provided with some excellent catered nasi lemak along with some other dishes from a supposed famous nasi lemak restaurant. Food was not short in supply. We still had plenty to go around after most of us (including people having their 5th servings) were done eating.

Everyone is tucking in after waiting some 15-2o minutes

Like hungry wolves, we saveged every single dish we could lay our hands on.

After stuffing ourselves full, it was time for games. I don't know about you, but I never really like these kinda games. Anything without a joypad/mouse & keyboard can't be half as good. Anyways, our activities man Z.Z. had thought it all out (missed out big time on managing the games properly). The games this time round were more bearable compared to the last round.

I can still remember having to walk out during one of the games cause it was far too long. Followed Kai Foong and Grace to A&W with Kat in tow. Had a good filling of waffles, felt guilty after that.

Back to the present day. We had 3 games in total. One was an ol' school game (where does the wind blow?), another was something I had played in church (balloon popping) and the last was a treasure hunt that took us around Monash.

Here we are playing the 'Balloon Popping' game

We had to rummage through thousand of straws to find a clue, dance a silly dance in the foyer, insert straws into a bottle while doing the splits and (turn away if you just had a meal)biting on chocolate through a straw (in the girl's toilet of all places). My group ended up last cause the last clue was pushed in beyond our line of sight.

Halfway through the prize giving a ghost came by to say 'hi'. Andrew was unphased and proceeded to take a photo of it.

It actually turned out to be Kai Foong standing out in the dark corridor, taking a peak. He DOES do a good impression of a bodyless head.

Well, all is said and done. This is the last Networking Party I will be going for I guess.

Have Faith

I'm not sure why I am starting out with this title. Honestly, its just something I saw today on a T-shirt. Thought it was worth mentioning it.

Woke up early today to go and do my normal stuff in uni. Doing assignment and stuff. People sure are busy now. Assignments are picking up. Lectures are in full swing. In fact, I had my first lecture with Dr. Ali Saleh's Case Studies of Internation Trade. He wasn't around for the past 2 weeks cause he was down under in Australia.

I wish he was in Australia more often. I miss my free Wednesdays now.

Damn, blogger is not allowing me to upload pictures. Dang...oh well will have to do without pics.

Got my new w800i today. It's a fine phone. Marvelous features and interface. Still, I feel kinda sad having to neglect my faithful K700i. So many memories with that phone. Guess I will use sometime for old time's sake.

The very FIRST pic I took with the w800i at the phone shop

F1 Fever

Attended a talk on resume writing today presented by Price Waterhouse Coopers. Was an interesthing talk on the dos and don'ts of resume writing. Several sample resumes were shown, most were unprofessional and simply lacked common sense (I hope I don't fall under this category when I DO start writing mine).

The Resume Writing Talk

Later went to One U, saw this F1 game show going on. Noticed that at least 3 of the contestants were from Monash U Engineering (the same bunch of dodos who campaigned for the 'Semi-Gifted' student party last year). Anyways, the fools were together with 4 other contestants in a bid to win a RM1000 Tower seat (I'm guessing its one of those air conditioned rooms that over look the race track) @ the F1 race. The game went like this:

Each contestant is to put on a racing jumpsuit and helmet in the fastest time possible. Upon wearing the jumpsuit, he is to run one round to the ground floor and back down to the stage on the basement level. The person with the fastest time wins.

Needless to say, the 'Semi-gifted' group wasn't gifted enough to win the ticket. The closest guy was just 2 secs behind the guy who got the ticket. Heh, tough luck.

On your marks...Get set.....GO!

It's raining Trees!!

Today has been one of those exceptionally weird days when it rains like the world is going to end. At least if the world was going to end, the begining of the end would be at Sunway College. So yes, it was pouring really heavily @ 3pm today. The aftermath of the rain storm was plenty of broken tree branches everywhere. Let's see if I can recount the places I passed by....

1. Infront of the back sidegate, barely missed the guard house and hit the bicycle shed.

2. The park near Medan Selera, one BIG tree had most of its branches down. Sabrina was worried that her Kancil was flattened by a tree.

3. A tree in the gap area between Sunway and Monash had its top blown off.

4. The main gate entering Sunway College has a tree leaning dangerously to the exit lane. It is surported by the (now defunct) monorail line. , finally there IS some USE for old junk.

5. Right infront of the entrance to Elephant Walk. All cars inside are presumed to be stuck or worse.

Rain's aftermath: You can't see much but you will notice on the ground several big branches that are downed by the storm.

In other news, apparently the Pan Mee @ the corner shop is really good. I hear that the sambal provided together with it is to die for.

The Pan Mee to DIE for!!! (As tested by Katherine Chick)

My 5th article for the Star is out today. Like the BIG explosion in the centre. Good choice of pictures I must say. Ahahha....cough cough....

Weird moment

Ok, not much has happened today. Went to uni in the afternoon and hung around until 5pm. Fetched Tim Nam to his tuition place in SS15. Along the way, I saw something weird. There in the pouring rain was a pink 'Hello Kitty' car. I'm pretty sure IT brought the rain along with it.

Here it is...the Pink 'Hello Kity' Car

After dropping Tim Nam off I decided to take a new way back instead taking the usual way. BAD idea. I ended up taking the wrong turning when I was approaching the Federal Highway and got myself turning towards Shah Alam!! Talk about bad turn of events. I ended up making a very very very very very long detour around Shah Alam. Passing the same toll booth twice. Bloody heck.

Oh the glitz and glamour!! It's the Oscars!!

Yes, folks its the Oscars today! Well, I would normally scorn the Oscars. I always found that the choices of the Oscars always sway to whatever is most popular and driven (look up Lord of the Rings). Very often the Oscars choose movies that not shown in Malaysia AT ALL. I blame this ALL on the choice of movies shown here. Very often, thought provoking films (no I'm talking about Daredevil) are subjected to the scrutiny of our bloody lame, imbecilic Censorship Board.

Well, enough of blasting one of Malaysia's fine examples of "excellence". The awards are all said and done. All that is left is to watch the reruns (yes MOST of us were out during the day when the Oscars was aired) and engage in interesthing discussions about which movies deserved the awards.

My movie viewing experience has largely been static limited to outtings with friends and such. As of late, I've been paying frequent visits to the cinema (and local DVD seller) to get my hands (eyes too) on some of the nominated films. These are some of the nominated films I watched:

-Crash
-Pride & Prejudice
-Walk the Line
-Syrianna
-The Constant Gardner
-Corpse Bride
-Howl's Moving Castle
-King Kong
-Memoirs of a Geisha
-The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

I must say I have never watched so many movies that were lined up for Oscars. I seriously did NOT expect Crash to win! A pleasent surprise to me. My initial impression of Crash was that it was rather crude and vulgar. As it progressed, I could see that the movie was projecting something more than racial discriminition. Instead, it looks at human beings in general not the exterior image of each person. What I liked most about the film was the fact that each character portrayed has a redeeming point/ fall from grace at some point in the show. So congrats to Crash!

Crash wins 3 Oscars!

One of those days

Its Friday, the last lecture of the week is here. It wouldn't be so dreadful if it wasn't for Thomas O'Daniel's class. Sigh. In the same fashion Project Management was conducted last sem, he pretty much pulls it off again. I think the class enthusiasm has dropped a notch and its highly likely that this trend will continue.

That concludes today's class on "trying-to-sound-intelligent-when-you-are-actually-not". Attended the career talk after class. Thought it was going to be good, but it was actually quite a bore. It was as if it was not enough that I had to go through a boring lecture and I deserved to be bored some more.

Had a simple roti canai lunch with Kat, after nearly dying of hunger (thought that career talk would never end). Hung around uni for a while cause Kat had to close the MBC (Monash Business Club) accounts for the day. Oh! Shocking discovery at the computer labs. The comps actually HAVE Firefox!! I never thought that the IT ppl would install Firefox. I thought I would have to suffer with that God forsaken browser (IE) for all my uni life!! Nicely surprised that I can browse as I do at home.

Went to One U later. Kat needed a new pair of glasses. Will have to stop by there on Monday to collect it. Pretty fast service for a fresh pair. I remember having to wait at least a few weeks, not 2 days!! Didn't watch any movie though, so just walked around the joint.

F1 fever is up and about. Honda and Ferrari have set up their booths in the new section. Honda's is significantly bigger, covering the entire Oval. For those of us who are interested in getting a tan from the 17-19 of March, one could win Grandstand tickets if they clock the fatest time on a simulated F1 game offered by both racing teams (okay you won't be sitting under the sun, since the tickets are worth RM1500).

A crowd gathers to watch 2 contestants battle it out for the fastest time.

Ferrari showing off their cars @ their exhibition booth.

This is a new feature in One U. A weird display of an X Wing chasing a Tie Fighter. It's right under the American Gladiator like children's play area.
