Beating the heat at Sunway

You know you gotta hit the beach when the heat gets to you. In Malaysia, its hardly surprising to go through a day complaining about the unbearable heat (how it become so unbearable, remains to be seen). But since we are living in PJ, it is pretty hard to go PD or Penang to take a dip. So what choice do we have? Sunway Lagoon.

Yes, the one and only theme park in the heart of the city. Nowhere else can you find a man made beach or go surfing right next to a shopping mall. Well, it all sounds good on paper, that's why Kat and her friends planned to go to Sunway Lagoon after their exams. I tagged along for the ride to participate in the fun.

Picked Kat up from the station at around 10. Met Sabrina and the others just as we were walking away from my car. Gave us a fright. The entrance to the lagoon was oddly located at the corner of level 3. The construction of Pyramid 2 has cost the Lagoon its main entrance. Not only is it less accessible now, but the place is kinda struggling keeping visitors interested.

A look at the Wet Park from above

Buying tickets is never easy when you go with a group of accountants

Sunway is very particular when visitors bring their own bottles into the park. Apparently, you MUST buy the park's filtered water.

After proceeding to buy the tickets, we made our way downstairs to the locker room area. It was a real challenge fitting 5 bags into one locker. Infact, this was tougher than fitting 21 people into a mini.

Stuffing bags in is never fun

Our first ride was the "teacup" ride. Spinning around till we can spin no more. Kat wasn't feeling too good after I spun it for abit. Gotta cut down on them spins.

Evidently, you should close your eyes as you spin. You'll feel less dizy afterwards

Caught this tiger roaming around a caged area. He looked pretty bored. But not as bored as....

The second lion, who looked kinda dead. Not sure if he was breathing, but the first one didn't mind sniffing it to check if it still had a pulse.

Our next ride was the Lost City of Gold, been on this one before. Long ago when it first opened. Was kinda scary at that time. Wasn't so much this time around, though the sudden drop and constant dipping still made it scary during the first half of the ride.

We decided to get on the tamer roller coasters, the Buffalo Bill Coaster. Less scary by far and not so exciting as it was when I was younger.

As you can see most of us weren't scared by the ride at all. Even had time to pose for the camera.

Ai Ling and Kimberly kindly demonstrated how to go down a slope at maximum speed using an inflatable boat.

The drop

Kat posing right after we came down the slide

This was something that scares even the hell outta me. Going up a slippery cannoe with very little grip and come sliding backdown after reaching the peak. Plus you get very wet at the end of the ride.

Some of our fellow comrades are about to understand the meaning of getting wet

Later we had lunch at the Wet Park area. The food was terrible and it was over charged. Rm 5.80 for a cheap Ramlee burger styled chicken burger. Disgraceful considering that Western theme parks DO have decent food.

All of us tucking in at the habour bay. Food sucked.

The view was nice though

All of us decided to head over to the Wave pool to get ourselves wet. Nice waterfall in the background.

A big part of the day was left unphotographed because we rented floats. We were all soaking wet after having "swam" around in circles around the river outlining the Wetpark.

Two very wet peopl at the park

Had to wait for the girls to finish changing before we finally decided to go back. Took the opportunity to take pictures around the place.

Sadly, it was time to go and we did have loads of fun. Like many theme parks, you just gotta go through a souvenier shop after everything you've been through.

The pig shaped straw was a hit among the girls.

Evening view of Monash in the horizon.

Walking back into Pyramid.

Having a well deserved rest at Mac Ds after a whole day out at the Lagoon.

Goodbye Monash.....I knew you well

It's finally over....university is out for good. Well, kinda like how school is out forever. On Tuesday 20th June 2006, I sat for (what i hope to be) my last paper at Monash University. It was GCO3601, Infrastructure for Electronic Commerce. Terrribly confusing subaject and not so fun exam paper. But hopefully, I will pass this paper without too much trouble. Those last minute revision sessions with Phil and Mei Yin should pay off.

Studying at 5.30am in the morning is not fun.

Capturing the moment: This was it, the invigilator announced the end of the exams. People all around were clearly very tired.

The little arrow is pointing at my subject GCO 3601. Can even see the time the exam ended.
The seats were empty infront of me cause there was one student taking the exam for one paper. He left early. Lucky guy.

Come to think of it, everything feels very surreal now. One moment I was studying for my finals, and the next i'm an unemployed graduate (soon to be). Life certainly is funny.

Went to Menara Star yesterday. Was suppose to meet with the In Tech's editor and ask about possibility of joining the newspaper. Another unexpected opportunity presented to me. Never thought of working as a journalist before, considering that I've been studying for business all these years.

I may be looking at this sight more often if I do get the job at Star.

Its been nice studying at Monash. Knowing so many people, more than I ever have in highschool or in college. It's been great knowing all of you guys (and gals) in uni. You all have been a great bunch of people.

2 Exams in a row and A visit from relative later....

Its been a while since I posted something up. Yeah, relatives from Singaporea and JB have been around plus I was "busy" studying for the final paper. Though I have been at the computer often. I often find myself wondering the planes of Oblivion, shooting stuff in Far Cry or wasting my time with Heros of Might and Magic V.

Lets see, recounting my horrific exam week. I had two papers back to back, none of which were fun to study. Extremely stressful, but i managed to get through both of them in the end. Funny thing is that one paper, Applied Micro and Macro came out almost exactly the same as one of the past year papers that i did before. Its open season on exam papers that time.

The night before Tuesday was hellish, I was tired from sitting in the exam hall for 3 hours. Yet I had to get some last minute revision (for whatever it was worth) done. Woke the next morning at 5.30am and started studying. 8.30am, sat in the exam hall still blur. When the "ol man" (cheif invigilator who comes in year after year) said the magic words "You may now leave the hall.....quitely!!" I was so relieved. Came out feeling rather rejuvinated and thankful that I don't have to do that again.

Can't recall much for the rest of the week. Nothing more than going to uni to study or studying at home. In between catching up with some gaming and writing a review. Come Saturday, I found myself back in uni. First thing that caught my eye as i parked my car was the damn freaking Ferrari parked right outside Medan. I mean, what an unexpected place to find a sports car like that...

A Ferari in an unlikely place

Later had lunch by myself (yes, it is sad but there isn't anyone around uni on Saturdays). Decided to go off shooting pics around uni. My focus of attention this time was the Monorail station. For so long I always wondered what it looked like. When I first came in to Monash, I thought it would be cool to sit on the monorail and go back and forth to Pyramid as I pleased. Unfortunately, 3 and half years later, I still find that the train has not arrived at the station....even once.

Yeah, the place is a dump. Obviously abandoned. Took pictures of the place, all dusty and leaky. There was even this guy sleeping at the station (sounded like a crazy fellow, or possibly a drunk guard). Heck, I just shot and go. The place isn't much to look at top side, aside from waiting till doomsday for a train that never comes, the only other thing you will find there is the newly converted sceince labs below the station platform. Apparently they thought of utilizing the space last year and built some labs there.

The Cafeteria on a Saturday

Sunway College Monorail Station!!

I've been waiting here for 3 years....and my train still isn't here.... (There was this guy sleeping near the end of the tracks, thought best not to bother him)

The track to nowhere. Wonder where does it go.

I think we have issues with labeling stuff at Sunway

An overused shot of Sunway University College (But I snapped it anyway)

My relatives from Singapore and JB came up for the weekend. Uncle and aunt brought grandpa up too. My lil' cousin Amanda had a fun time playing around with Jinn Lik. JW commented that it was odd hearing a lil' girl screaming around the house fo a change.

"That's mine!!!"

My relatives from KL came up to see my grandpa on Saturday night.

Amanda is treated like a princess.

Yes, Jw lost weight during NS but I think my uncle is probably breaking under the pressure of his weight in this pic.

Sitting down for dinner

You better watch out!!

By Tuesday it was time to say goodbye.
